2020 Scholarship Awardees


Jamie Lynne Acan, Point Loma Nazarene University, RN to BSN Program
Expected Graduation: December 2021

Jamie is a motivated and intelligent individual who is interested in pursuing her studies in higher education. She graduated from Southwestern college with her ADN in 2020. As SLC Community Outreach Coordinator, she enjoys volunteering and is an activevolunteer at Sharp Chula Vista as an emergency aide in response to COVID-19.

Kadija Amba, Southwestern College, ADN Program
Expected Graduation: May 2021

Kadija holds a B.A. in Psychology from Pitzer College and is interested in mental health. She is currently a mental health worker at UCSD Healthcare and previously worked at Sharp Mesa Vista as a mental health associate. She is an active member of SLC and participated in the distribution of foods to hospitals as part of the PNASD COVID-19 relief initiative.

Darryl Banares, Southwestern College, ADN Program
Expected Graduation: May 2021

Darryl is compassionate and a good communicator. As SLC Community Outreach Coordinator, he moderates the SLC Facebook group to connect SLC members with upcoming events. He is concurrently enrolled in Southwestern College and Point Loma Nazarene RN to BSN Program. He enjoys volunteering with American Red Cross as a blood donor screener.

Laura Blosser, Southwestern College, ADN Program
Expected Graduation: May 2021

Laura is a very humble and grateful individual and is excited about learning and growing with PNASD. She was previously a preschool teacher at Grace Lutheran Church. She is currently an SLC Communications and Liaison Coordinator and manages the PNASD Bookshelf Project, which allows PNASD student members to borrow books from a select inventory.

Alyssa Doon, Southwestern College, ADN Program
Expected Graduation: May 2021

Alyssa is a positive and motivated individual who is dedicated to nursing and looks up to her brother who is an RN. She is concurrently enrolled in Southwestern College and Point Loma Nazarene RN to BSN Program. She enjoys volunteering and has served with the American Red Cross, Feeding San Diego, and Jewish Family Services of San Diego.

Amilie Espinoza, Point Loma Nazarene University, RN to BSN Program
Expected Graduation: December 2021

Amilie is always seeking opportunities to learn and grow. She graduated from Southwestern College with her ADN in 2020. She contributes her time to PNASD as SLC Secretary and participated in several PNASD volunteer events, one of which was the Hot Meal Distribution where she helped distribute food and resources to community members of Mira Mesa.

Audrey Valafar, BSN program San Diego State University
Expected Graduation Date: May 2021

Audrey holds a B.A. in Gerontology from SDSU. She has been very active in helping her community by volunteering at Adult Day Centers, Aging & Independent Services to assist our seniors who needs support. She is dedicated to providing excellent patient care and shows utmost compassion towards her patients.

Ashley Garcia, UCLA, BSN Program
Expected Graduation: June 2021

Ashley is a well-rounded individual who is very dedicated to her nursing career path. She has been volunteering at hospitals since she was in high school. She is the president of Global Action in Nursing (GAIN) at UCLA, and has advocated for under served communities in Panama.

Aryal Jardines, National University, BSN Program
Expected Graduation: November 2020

Aryal is hardworking, compassionate, and a highly skilled individual. She is committed to PNASD and serves as the SLC treasurer and fundraising coordinator. She also creates all the flyers for SLC events and coordinates the sales of the fundraising items. Aryal handles all her responsibilities with great diligence and dedication.

Jennifer Kim, Cal State University San Marcos, ABSN Program
Expected Graduation: May 2022.

Jennifer holds a B.A. in History and Associate degrees in Allied Health, Mathematics & Science. She discovered that nursing is her real passion and has been pursuing her dream to be a nurse. She is full of altruism, understanding of others and always has a positive outlook in life.

Teddy Lee, National University, BSN Program
Expected Graduation: July 2021

Teddy holds a B.A. in Sociology, with a minor in applied psych from UC Santa Barbara. He currently works as an associate product manager for a software company in San Diego and is interested in nursing informatics. He is the workshops director for National University’s nurses association. He is passionate about education and being involved in SLC educational opportunities.

Brian Pineda Southwestern College, ADN Program
Expected Graduation: May 2021

Brian is a hard worker and dedicated to his goals of becoming a nurse. He has over 9 years of experience in the healthcare field and is very passionate about helping others. As SLC Communications and Liaison Coordinator, he has revived SLC and recruited many student members. He is very enthusiastic and demonstrates great leadership abilities.

Melissa Ann Ramirez, Point Loma Nazarene University, BSN Program.
Expected Graduation date: December 2021

Melissa is in the RN-BSN program and is highly praised for her professionalism, positive attitude and eagerness to learn. She takes the time to see and treat her patients as a whole. She has been involved in volunteer opportunities with SLC through the Hot Meal Distribution and Virtual Mass at the PNAA Virtual Convention.

Aileen Everhart, San Diego State University, RN to BSN Program
Expected Graduation: May 2021

Aileen holds a B.A. in Human Development from UCSD. She is a kind and compassionate individual who has many years of experience in the healthcare field. She currently works for Sharp Healthcare as an acute care RN extender. She enjoys volunteering and participated in the food distribution and Virtual Mass at the PNAA Virtual Convention.
